When it comes to any Indian festival, exposing society’s in built tradition is must, and Durga Puja is no where different from it. Durga Puja, the vibrant festival that is witnessed all over West Bengal and especially in Kolkata it is grandeur. Besides worshipping the Durga idol, what is most famous here is “Dhunuchi Nach”. “Nach” or “Nritya” is a term that is used to denote “Dance”. We all know that dance is a form of art. “Dhunuchi” is nothing but the traditional hand lamp that is made of earthenware which is breakable. Inside it we have to place the coconut shell, incense and burning coal.

 It is basically a folk dance and it  enhances the folk culture of the state that is being enjoyed by all the audience. It is not only a way to worship the God but, basically it entertains the mass audience. The dancers have to follow here rhythmic steps along with the “Dhak’. The dhunuchi dancers hold the pots in their palms and move rhythmically with the drumbeats. During the Durga Puja we can see that in every pandal the dancers dance with dhunuchi after the arati.
